Ticks & Fleas

Tick RemovalTicks

We have more than our fair share of ticks in the Kimberly the main ones are the brown dog tick and the bush tick. Ticks are most likely picked up from the ground as they live in the dirt, shrubs and grasses. They cause skin irritations, anaemias and occasionally carry tick Bourne disease.

A notifiable tick Bourne disease called Ehrlichia has unfortunately become present in Australia. See our Blog page to read about Ehrlichia and our recommended advice. This page also includes the requirements set by DPIRD on dogs leaving the Kimberley.

Luckily we do not have the paralysis tick in the Kimberly.

Fleas

Fleas in hairFlea bites are irritating and stressful for your pet. Skin inflammation due to flea saliva (known as FAD – flea allergy dermatitis) is one of the most common causes for an animal to visit the vet.

But that’s not all. Fleas can transmit disease and even cause anaemia in very heavy infestations. Fleas can also bite humans, and, once inside your home, they can be very difficult to get rid of, so it is important to protect your pets from fleas
